Querus rubra, also called champion oak, it can grow up to 43 meters an become 400 years old.
It’s native to north America where its commonly found in in the eastern and central United States and southeast and south-central Canada. However in the 18th century it was also introduced to Europe where its regarded as one of the most invasive species by now.
Its wood is of high quality and the red oak is one of the most important oaks in North American timber production.
It is New Jersey’s offical state tree.
